How cryptic is that post title huh? It’s probably not what you think.
For the last year, I’ve been struggling to make this freelance thing work while keeping up with the comic I love. You guys have noticed. Missed deadlines, changes in direction, more missed deadlines and an eventual schedule change to two days a week… which I still missed a couple deadlines on. Piled on top of that, I’ve had this other idea (actually, more than one) that’s been eating at me. It’s like an itch I need to scratch. Shattered Myth was the project that got me off my arse and back into the game. But due to my schedule, I haven’t really been improving much lately. I need to push myself to get better and I can’t do that when my main focus is “just get the thing done”.
However, you guys are all awesome and you deserve better than I can give (we’re not breaking up, I swear). I love Shattered Myth and I love this world I’ve created. Book Three will be out in a couple months. I’m attending some cons next year. Basically, I want it to continue and I’ve left you guys hanging far too often lately. So I’m announcing Shattered Myth: Spotlight.
I’ve gone out and tapped some of my favorite tweeps and fellow comickers to take over Shattered Myth for me. For a year. That’s right. A FULL YEAR. While I work on said other projects, this team will be handling a God or two themselves, three updates a week, one month at a time. Some will be handling art duties. Others will be taking care of plotting and writing. While some will be taking care of everything themselves. But they’re all gonna be awesome. I’ve selected a wide variety of looks and I think you guys are in for a treat. They’re a great group of creators. Some of which I’ve worked with on Notes, others I met on 30 characters last year and some are just great comickers of whom I’m a fan. I don’t have a schedule of who’s comics go up when. I’m taking ‘em as I get ‘em. The Spotlight project will start as soon as the current storyline finishes. Which should be by the End of November. Here’s the rundown on everyone involved.
• Rolando Garcia – @roshow of Roshow.net will be scripting for Dakuwaqa while I will be providing the art.
• Eric White – @geekywhiteguy of geekywhiteguy.com will be co-writing (with Rolando Garcia) and Illustrating an adventure starring Hermes.
• Jonathan Macfarlane – @j_macfarlane of failurewhale.com is writing and illustrating a tale of Anubis.
• Stef – @sarah_zero of Sarah Zero will be handling the previously untouched Hecate with a script from me.
• Gary Lister – @listerart of listerart.com is crafting a story featuring Mythoscape MVP, Ishtar.
• Jonathan Rector – @artbyjar of The Standard, Hero Code and jonathanrector.com is bringing the “action” with Thor.
• Lonnie Easterling – @spudcomics of Spud Comics is on board and has decided on Vulcan (with a totally new design!)
• Dan Monroe – @dragonbrush of Ye Gawds! and countless children’s books is taking on Kali.
• Corey Kramer – @coreyremark of Remedy and Wonder Weenies will be working on Thoth, with a loose plot I provided.
• Elizabeth Staley – @adrastuscomic of Adrastus has also committed to helping out and she has now selected the Mythoscape’s resident Fanboy Geek, Marduk.
• CDowd – @charlesdowd of Lilith Dark and CDowd.com is continuing the tale he started in Book One starring our super under-used bad guys, the Shattered.
• The last spot, I’ve left open on the off chance that one of those “Maybe” creators I invited will decide to jump on board.
Now, I won’t be disappearing or anything. I’ll be around, posting some stuff here and there, drawing the Dakuwaqa story & promoting the crap outta these awesome creators! Remember, I’m going to finish the current story arc before anyone takes over. This has been in the works for a while now and I just couldn’t keep the secret any longer!
Oh hey! I know I haven’t updated the strip in a while but I’ve been squeezing in some behind the scenes stuff I’m pretty excited about. I can’t tell you about the big one yet but the little one is no big deal.
Shattered Myth books are now available as PDF downloads! Just head over to one of two digital stores behind the “Digital” link in the menubar, download & enjoy on your iPad, smartphone, etc.
Have you guys checked out the Notes anthology? It’s a 65 page comic anthology filed with stories inspired by music. Some really great creators helped fill the thing, using a super-diverse set of songs. And I’ve got one in there too! Not to mention, it’s only a BUCK! $1.00 gets you the full pdf download.
The thing has been out a couple weeks but I forgot to plug it on here! My story is, unsurprisingly, inspired by a Tears for Fears song – Famous last words. The story was an experiment in storytelling for me personally & I really liked how it turned out.
Head over to www.notescomic.com and grab one today! You can also pick it up at The Illustrated Section or Drive theu comics.
It’s been confirmed. I shall finally be attending my first convention behind the table. I’m nervous as all get out and I’m scrambling to get things ready but I think it’s going to be a great show.
It’s the “Contagion:Outbreak” in Omaha, NE on June 10,11 & 12. A three day con that’s only a few hours from my house. Yay! They’ve got some great guests including Jewell Staite, the voice of Starscream (Transformers: Prime) and a crapton of Zombies. I’ll be in the equivalent of Artist Alley (tho I don’t think they’re calling it that). Table Number 205. I’ll be the nervous nelly parked right next to good twitter buddy and colorist extraordinaire, Eric White, without whom, I would not even know this con was coming!

I’ll be there all three days with Shattered Myth merchandise at the table. Both books, buttons, free bookmarks and candy! I’m hoping to have a few original art pieces available at the show as well–Mostly Transformers themed. If you’ve visited the Facebook page, you’ve seen a few of ‘em. The Zombie Optimus is 14″x17″ archival ink on bristol, the rest will be 9″x12″ done the same way. If there’s time, I’m hoping to get some Transformers marker-sketch cards put together beforehand as well so I might have some of those at the show as well. The originals must be purchased from the Gallery they’ll have set up in the center of the Artist area, NOT directly from my table. But make sure you come by and let me know if you’re planning to get one, just to fluff my ego and bolster my confidence!
Of course, I’m also going to have some Shattered Myth sketch cards and will be doing FREE custom sketches to anyone who purchases a book. In addition, during this convention (and immediately afterwards), I’ll be opening up commission slots. That includes Shattered Myth, Transformers, Go-Bots, Rom, Zoids, Voltron, or whatever you want. More details on that after the convention.
I hope to see at least a few of you there!
The books are in and are now available for shipping. If you’ve already ordered, first off, THANKS! Secondly, I will be shipping the orders out as soon as I can. Artist Editions will take me a little longer of course so I can customize ‘em up.
If not, what are you waiting for? Every order gives me more mojo to keep going (not that I’m going to quit or anything if no one orders). If you don’t want to order though this site, it’s cool. No big deal. You can also get the books from Amazon. In addition, the Amazon pages have small previews of the Guts of the pages (They look a little washed out to me, but I lightened the images so they would look better in print).
Here’s the Amazon links. If you order from them, make sure you leave me a review, deal?
and Book Two
As always everybody, thanks for reading and putting up with my sporadic schedule lately.
